BECKHAM SET FOR SPELL ON SIDELINES

David Beckham is set to be sidelined for around a month after suffering ligament damage in his right knee, Real Madrid have confirmed.

Beckham sustained the injury during the second half of Sunday's La Liga match with Getafe, when he attempted a cross and then ran into the advertising hoardings behind the goal.

The former England captain underwent tests at the team's Valdebebas training ground on Monday, where it was confirmed he had damaged the internal lateral ligament in his right knee.

Beckham had already been omitted from a 23-man Madrid squad for Wednesday's Champions League second leg against Bayern Munich due to the injury.

However, he will now also miss this weekend's trip to arch rivals Barcelona, as well as possibly three more Primera Liga games.

Beckham joins Madrid teammates in training for first time since ...

MADRID, Spain (AP) - David Beckham was back training with his Real Madrid teammates Tuesday for the first time since he sprained his right knee a month ago.

Beckham will have to wait before he takes part in a full training program and may not be ready for Sunday's Spanish league game against Osasuna at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. The former England captain, who was injured during Madrid's game against Getafe, has missed three league matches since running into the advertising signs behind the goal.

Beckham has 10 games remaining before he joins Major League Soccer's Los Angeles Galaxy in August.

Madrid still has a chance of winning the title, which would be Beckham's first major trophy since he joined the club from Manchester United in 2003.

Madrid is third in the league with 51 points, five behind leader FC Barcelona.
